Beauteque August Beauty Bag: Head to Toe Spa Bag

Arghhh.  I've been so ridiculously busy at work I haven't had time to keep up with my reviews, and now I'm way behind... I'm also writing this on absolutely no sleep because I don't have enough time to go back to sleep before I have to get up again... so here I am.

On that note, anything spa related sounds perfect right now.  And Beauteque's [side note: I always pronounce this like "bow-tek"... but apparently it's "byoo-tek". I blame my pitiful high school french classes on this.] August Head-to-Toe Spa Bag is just the thing.  (Full disclosure: I received this bag for free to review, but all my opinions are my own, sincere thoughts).  [Skip the next two paragraphs if you're bored and just want to see the damn bag already!]

A bit of background: Asian cosmetics are the new rage (at least in the circles I run in), whether it's Memebox or Beauteque or even just a spontaneous trip to H-Mart (currently at the top of my list of things to do).  Beauteque broke out onto the scene fairly recently, and it sells Asian cosmetics from within the US (New Jersey, I believe), so shipping is very reasonable, and overall their prices are reasonable.  The company has had some awesome marketing techniques as it gets off the ground, including sending sample bags out to anyone who managed to order it.  What I think is really awesome, though, is that it was founded by a 16 year old girl (Elina Hsueh) in order to share Asian cosmetics with the Western world (and I know I speak for many people when I say we are all for making these things more accessible!).  When I was 16, I was... I don't even know.  But I certainly wasn't starting a company.  In any case, business reasons I aside, I fully support young people (making myself sound like a grandma here) going out into world on their own accord and just doing things, whatever they may be.

Also, despite the fact that Beauteque is less than a year old, it's already had its first charity event (Shine a Light in the Dark: a Night of Female Empowerment).  For $10/$15 (10% of the proceeds went to a battered woman's shelter), there were guest speakers, cocktails and food, a donation drive, free facial and body sessions and access to sample bags and Beauteque products.  I know I've already gushed (and I swear, no one is paying me to say these things), but I am honestly very impressed.  This is definitely a worthy cause and events like this are not something I see often from beauty companies.

ANYWAY.  On to the bag.  Since I know that's what you're here for, I'll just put this lovely picture of my goodies up front.  (My at-home photo set up was kind of out of commission at this point, so I didn't take many pictures - my apologies.  Also, flat pouches are just not that fun to photograph...)

beauteque august head to toe spa bag masks skinfood rice wash off my beauty diary apple
I think Beauteque only started these bags in July, and I didn't get one of those, so this is my first.  August's theme was Head-to-To Spa and it centered around all kinds of masks, which are super popular these days.  What I really liked about this though was the customization option.  Memebox has a series of Mask boxes, which tend to be fun and awesome (and I'm certainly not complaining about those boxes), the only drawback for me is that sometimes you get products that just aren't really meant for you.  I, for example, have very oily skin, and so many face masks out there are for moisture or wrinkles, neither of which are concerns for me.  This is why I got excited to see that for the Beauteque bag, you could customize the majority of the contents of the bag.
beauteque august head to toe spa bag masks skinfood rice wash off my beauty diary apple

The bag comes with 7 masks (all in a sturdy bag like so -->):
-  1 eye mask
-  1 wash-off face mask
-  2 sheet face masks
-  1 hair mask
-  1 hand mask
-  1 foot mask
plus a terrycloth headband/wrap type thing to keep your hair out of your face while you use the masks.

For the eye mask, we could choose between masks meant for dark circles, puffiness or smoothness. I thankfully don't have dark circles or puffy eyes (yet), so I went for smoothness, although now that I think about it, that's probably to get rid of wrinkles, eh?  Don't have those either, but oh well.  The eye mask is the small green pouch.  Unfortunately it's almost exclusively in Chinese, but I can make out "my beautiful/beauty" and what I think is the character for "book", so I'm gonna go ahead and guess this is a My Beauty Diary mask.  It's the Smoothness Intensive Care Eye Mask.  After some googling, I see that MBD has three eye masks in this line: Smoothness, Dark Circles and Puffiness, so I was right. (Yay for minimal competency in Chinese!)  The puffiness one looks cool (kind of like a masquerade mask), whereas the dark circles one looks like a mix of  Goldfish (the snack, not the animal) and lobster claws (picture here).  Sadly mine looks the least interesting, but I guess I should be rational and not let my judgment be based on how closely my mask resembles food.

Anyway, for the hair mask, the options are: nourishing, split ends, hydrating, chemically treated - keratin and extremely damaged hair.  Again, I (thankfully) have pretty normal hair, so I just got the nourishing hair mask.  I received the Hask Monoi Oil Nourishing Deep Conditioner.  While I certainly don't mind it, this seems to be the odd one out as all the other products are from various Asian brands.  I kind of wish the hair mask had also been from an Asian brand simply because it's those brands I don't get on my own, but oh well.

The next (and best, in my opinion) choice is for the facial sheet masks.  Of these, I got to choose any two of the following concerns: oil control, whitening, pore control, anti-aging, soothing, nourishing, moisturizing and brightening.  Hooray!  I had a hard time picking these, but I ultimately went with pore control, due to my crater-sized pores, and brightening, because my face has always had a bit of redness and ruddiness to it that I just can't get rid of.  The two masks I received were the Tony Moly I'm Real Red Wine Mask Sheet for Pore Care, and the My Beauty Diary Apple Polyphenol Mask, for tightening pores, brightening and clarifying (sweet- this one hit both of my concerns!)  Given the infinite of masks there are out there, I'm not sure if there was just one set of masks these came from, or if someone at Beauteque just picked out two from their selection based on your choices.  Either way, I was pumped as I love trying these sheet masks.  I've only tried the MBD one, but I did enjoy it.  To be perfectly honest, I've never really seen noticeable results from using a mask once (which makes me wonder why I love them so much, considering I usually only have one...).  I don't know if it's just because my skin is that stubborn or what, but I know other people have had great success.  That being said, while I don't think my skin was suddenly brighter or my pores were smaller after using this, my skin did feel very moist (in a real, healthy way, as opposed to feeling like I just had a layer of wet serum on my skin, which is often the case with these masks).  I would use this again!

That was all for the choices, but the remaining products were:
-  Skin Food Rive Mask (Wash Off) -- this was a full sized container!  Super generous and I know some people rave about this mask.  Unfortunately I already own it so this isn't a huge value add for me, but I think someone will be very appreciative to get it as a gift.  My thoughts on the mask: it's not super effective on my thick as nails skin.  If I'm going to exfoliate, I want something that really helps smooth out my skin.  I think this mask would be great for people with sensitive skin as it's very gentle, but what can I say? I like it rough.  Also, you're supposed to leave it on your face after massaging, but the texture makes me feel like the primary point of the mask is exfoliation, and I'm not sure what the benefit of leaving it on is.  But like I said, my skin doesn't react (well) to anything, so it's hard for me to judge performance.

-  Baby Silky Hand and Foot Mask Sheets -- I'm excited about these too.  When I first took these out, though, I thought of the now-famous peeling-type foot masks (including one called Baby Foot) that are super effective and getting rough skin off your feet because they literally make your feet peel off in sheets. Pretty gross.  But hey, it works.  So when I took these out, I automatically assumed it was that type of foot mask, then got a bit concerned about a hand mask that did the same thing.  I can cover my gross peeling feet, but peeling hands?  Not so easy... But as it turns out, these are of the less aggressive family of hand and foot masks, and they're supposed to make your hands and feet baby soft, but does so through moisturizing rather than by unearthing the deepest layers of your skin.  So I guess that's good.  I haven't used these either though, because I actually do have a peeling foot mask, and I think this one would work much better as maintenance once I get rid of some of the tough skin on my feet.  And the hand mask I'm saving for a special occasion (read: first date, i.e. when I expect to be holding someone's hand... is that dumb?  Probably...).  This is why I have so much crap though... I save everything for the perfect occasion which means I never use it!

Anyways, one thing I wish this had included is instructions on the various products.  Some are straightforward enough (with pictures and clocks on the back), whereas some (mainly the eye mask), I have no idea how long I'm supposed to use it for.  Not a huge deal, as marks are generally pretty simple, but it would have been nice to have some guidance for products whose info I can't read.  That being said, it did include a cute little schedule for a relaxing spa day at home:

beauteque august head to toe spa bag masks skinfood rice wash off my beauty diary apple

While the schedule does have some time guidelines, I would imagine different masks of the same category have different instructions.  But honestly if that's my biggest grievance I'll be ok. Hopefully I'm competent enough to figure out how to not mess up a mask...

ANYWAY this post has become much longer than anticipated, and quite boring without pictures.  But I wanted to share my goodies with you, since the mask craze is spreading.  The bag costs $20 from Beauteque (available here).  The Skinfood mask seems to be worth about $10-$15 ($9 on Amazon) which makes up for most of the cost. don't think this is some fantastic overwhelming value of a set, since single masks tend to be on the less expensive side (though to be frank I didn't look these up), but for $20 for a good selection of masks, it's $20 I'd easily spend on this over a crazy expensive actual spa day.

If you're interested, hurry and pick it up now - it's only available until Sept. 1. (but then hopefully we get to see the September box!).  Did any of you pick this up (or are you planning on it?)  Let me know what you think!

Memebox: At Home Box Unboxing and Review

Happy weekend y'all!

I've been crazy busy at work and haven't been keeping up with my posts, but have a few things to share.  Tonight however, in the spirit of spending a relaxing Friday night staying in, I'd like to share my thoughts on one box in particular: the Memebox At Home box.  The theme of this box was pampering yourself for a relaxing night in, and it was definitely one I enjoyed receiving, if nothing else for the sheer entertainment value.  For reference, I paid about $26 for this box including international shipping from Korea.

Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review

Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review CNKCOS Sexy Beans The first product is the CNKCOS Sexy Beans (full size, valued at $17).  These powdery balls are supposed to have a slimming effect when you smush them and massage/lather it into your body part of choice (rinsing after leaving it on for 3-5 minutes).  Big surprise headline of the day -- these sexy beans for some reason did not turn me into a swimsuit model.  Quite the shocker, I know.  To be fair (well, as fair as I can try to be with a straight face), it says you will slim up "with continuous use", but I hope you won't mind if I go on and assume that rubbing mashed up soy bean, corn, centella asiatica (also known as Asiatic or Indian pennywort) extracts and caffeine will not make me slimmer, no matter how long I use it.  I still gave these a try just in case they proved useful for something else, but to be perfectly frank these just seem pretty pointless to me.

Side note: the instructions recommend using it in the shower, and letting it sit on your skin for 3-5 minutes before rinsing.  Is it just me, or does anyone else not have time to stand in a shower for five minutes not getting your legs/stomach/butt wet?

Next up we have the cotterang Blackhead & Black Mask Economic Kit (full sized, listed as $29).

Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review cotterang Blackhead Out Black Mask Economic Kit Source Sauce This neat little blackhead remover kit comes with a petri dish, cloth strips (40 for your nose, 20 for your chin), a formula that you spray onto the strips (Memebox called it Blackhead-Out Sauce, which is a cooler name than the actual name, which is Blackhead Out Source), a pair of pincers/tongs to grab the wet strips, 25 black sticks with a q-tip on one and and a blackhead remover on the other, and a plastic bag for it all.  I was excited to try this as I have crater-sized pores that get filled up with sebum every single day and had high hopes that this would draw them out.  It's a bit different than other pore strips in that you spray the formula on the cloth strips and keep them on your skin, but the strip isn't stick, so I felt the need to continue pressing it down to ensure constant contact.  Also, it doesn't harden and pull out the gunk in your pores - the instructions actually say to remove the strip before it dries completely and then to remove the "extracted blackheads' with the q-tip sticks.  I'm not sure why you're not supposed to let these dry, but I've tried it twice and didn't really notice any difference (and there certainly wasn't anything pushed out of my pores enough for me to remove it with a q-tip).  That being said, I think my pores might actually be more clear than usual, in terms of that gunky sebum stuff.  I used a different pore strip and nothing really came of that either, so maybe I just don't actually need this right now? On the other hand, I have more blackheads than usual (I usually have no blackheads but lots of gunk, and now it's reversed), but this didn't seem to do anything for blackheads.  In any case, I'll definitely try again another time.

Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review cotterang Blackhead Out Black Mask Economic Kit Source Sauce
Although this was also kind of a dead end for me, it was fun to try (though the whole set up is admittedly a bit gimmicky - I'm pretty sure I don't need a petri dish and tweezers to spray a piece of fabric).  More than that though, I'm actually really happy to have these disposable extractor sticks!  I'll use these up either way and they seem handy to have, although I find it hard to imagine how the q-tip end would be useful at removing blackheads...

Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review Labstory V-Line B-Tox Lifting Mask So the next product is a bit weird...  it's the Labstory V-Line B-Tox Lifting Mask (apparently $34).  This mask is made of rubber and you fasten it under your chin to lift up the wrinkles on your chin and neck.  If you Google-image search this (and please do), it looks a little bit like it came out of a horror movie.  Fortunately for me, I have no wrinkles on my chin (yet) so don't really have any use for this, but it will surely make for an interesting gift!
Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review Oseque Silk Foot Peeling GelAnother product I was very excited to try out was the Oseque Silk Foot Peeling gel (full sized, apparently $42 - though I question the accuracy of this.  First of all $42 seems very overpriced for this, and also the picture Memebox put out as a spoiler included two bottles and a buffer thing, which they sadly did not include, so I wonder if "full size" is the entire set).  In any case, my feet are always suffering from horrible calluses so I was looking forward to trying this (especially about hearing about the efficacy of various foot peeling masks people have used).  This is one of those gels that balls up on your skin.  Memebox says to apply it on your heels then use a callus removing buffer to rub off dead skin cells, which is why it would have been helpful if they included the buffer.  I tried this with a (pretty hard) loofah and I think it's just not strong enough for my calluses.  I think these gels are good for more sensitive skin as it seems to gently exfoliate the very top layer of skin, but it just does not get deep down into rough calluses.  This might be helpful after using a real foot peeling mask (the ones with super intense peeling) to maintain soft feet, or if you don't have tough calluses to begin with, but until then it probably won't do much for me.  On the plus side, unlike the intense foot peeling masks, this one won't leave your feet looking gross for weeks on end, which is always a plus!

Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review withshyan with shyan Ruby Pusher Eraser Nail CuticleThe next product is great for those of you who take better care of their nails than I do, or who use nail polish a lot.  It's the with shyan Ruby Pusher and Eraser ($17) - this is a solution that you put on your cuticles and rinse off after 30-60 seconds.  You're then supposed to use the included cuticle pusher to push your cuticles up and scrape off the loose, dead skin from under your cuticles.  Let me say - this stuff is named Eraser for a reason.  It actually stung quite a bit when I put it on my cuticles, which was not pleasant.  I don't know if it's dissolving my skin cells or what, but hopefully that means it's actually doing something.  That being said, after about 45 seconds it really did make it easier to push my cuticles back with the included cuticle stick (sorry for not having a clear picture of that, but it's a ceramic, slanted tip that gets under your cuticles very effectively).  I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be scraping my cuticles off, but I tried to scrape out whatever was "under" them.  The picture below shows my nails before and after using this, and to be perfectly honest I think my nails look better before I used this stuff, but that's because my cuticles are now just pushed up and loose (and my nails are slightly scraped).  I think once they've recovered a bit, or if I figure out a good way to scrape off the loose cuticle, it will probably look better.  Ultimately though, I thought my nails were fine the way they were, and although this might work, it's just too much trouble for me, with too little payoff.  If this something you care about though, I think it would work quite well!

Before and after:
Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review withshyan with shyan Ruby Pusher Eraser Nail Cuticle

The last two products are the RiRe Cool Dr. Scalp+ and Hot Speed Manicure ($11).  The Cool Dr. Scalp+ is supposed to cool down scalp temperature to prevent hair loss (I was not aware hair loss was related to an overheated scalp...) and also remove impurities and dead skin cells from your scalp.  Though I don't expect much from the first half of these claims, removing impurities and dead skin cells sounds good, especially since I tend to have an oily but flaky scalp.  I'm not totally certain how to use this - it says to apply directly onto your scalp whenever and wherever needed, no washing necessary.  I'm wary of the grease/heaviness-factor of putting a cream directly on my scalp on dry hair, but I massaged a small amount in my scalp when my hair was still slightly damp, and it didn't seem to make my hair any greasier.  That being said, I didn't notice any cooling effect and I'm not really sure what other effects I would see in terms of cleansing my scalp without rinsing.  Maybe I just need to use more, but I'll reserve that for a day where no one will see my potentially product-overloaded scalp.  It does smell relatively nice though, and seems fairly light (similar in texture to the Palan Crysence Hair Essence we got in Memebox 12).   I will definitely keep trying it, but I'm sad it's such a small tube (speaking of which, it's kind of weird that it's in a lip gloss type tube, with a slanted tip with a hole in the middle).  If I end up liking it, it's not going to last very long.
Memebox Superbox 37 At Home Unboxing Review RiRe Cool Dr. Scalp Plus + Hot Speed Manicure
This Hot Speed Manicure, though... I'm not really sure what this is about.  First of all, the name literally makes no sense.  You're supposed to apply it to the ends of your hair and it's supposed to deliver nutrition and create a strong protein layer for maintaining a healthy moisture balance in your hair.  I guess the Manicure is a reference to the protein, in the same way protein is related to nail care?  I'm honestly not sure.  As for the hot and speedy, this is neither hot nor is it any speedier than any other hair treatment out there.  But I won't hold that against them - a lot of foreign products have names that don't work particularly well in English, and it doesn't detract from the product itself.  But on that note, holy crap does this stuff smell like baby powder.  As in, this makes my hair smell like baby powder more than putting baby powder in my hair (and I used to use baby powder as dry shampoo so I have lots of experience in that area).  The smell was so prominent that I literally put it in my hair and then immediately went to the bathroom to try to rinse it out (and as someone who hates waiting for her hair to dry, this was a big deal). The smell itself is not that bad in and of itself, but it's just really not what I want to smell like, and it's strong enough that other people would be able to smell it too (in particular, the guy I thought I might be seeing - nothing kills the mood like cuddling with someone who smells like your grandmother's house).  Because I rinsed it off immediately, I can't speak to what this does for your hair (although my ends are very soft today, but I don't know if it has anything to do with any residual product).   I suppose I will try it again someday, but only when I know I won't be in close contact with anyone before my next shower.  Sadly though, this means no matter how effective it is, I'm never going to want more because it kind of defeats the purpose if I can only use it when in isolation mode...

In conclusion, somehow despite the fact that most of these products were a bust for me, I actually still had a lot of fun trying them out and I don't think it was a waste of money.  If nothing else, $26 for a nice cuticle pusher, some disposable blackhead extractors and a foot peeling gel that I will probably eventually use (once I deal with some of these more stubborn calluses) plus the sheer entertainment of being surprised by the box and trying everything out was totally worth it for me.

What did you guys think, and did you have any more luck with any of these than I did?

If you're interested in trying Memebox, they have some promotions going on.  If you go through my link here, you can get 3 reward points back (equivalent to $3 credit) for the Vitamin Care box, Herbal Cosmetics box (this one looked great!), Collagen Cosmetics, Dermo Cosmetics 2, $5 in points back for the Anti-Aging 3 box, $10 in points for the IOPE 2 box and $2 in points for the Whole Grain 2 box, Diet Box, All about Eyes box.

Memebox Global #13 Unboxing and Review

Happy Sunday everyone!  I won't waste time on silly introductory language (see my earlier posts if you don't know what Memebox is!).  Without further delay, I present to you Memebox Global #13!

Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review

First up we have the 23 years old CX Detoxifying Air Therapy. This mask is made from carbonated water, and the bubbles are supposed to penetrate your skin and cleanse your pores.  The mineral-rich carbonated water also helps brighten and firm up your overall skin for a revitalized feeling.  I have to say, I'm a sucker for interesting packaging.  While I love masks in general, I can't help but be fascinated by a mask that comes in a syringe.  That being said, it does seem to be purely aesthetic because I can't for the life of me think of a practical reason to package it like this - the directions just say to apply it to your face and then place the included sheet mask on top (then rinse after 20-30 minutes).  Either way, I'm excited to try it and will report back!

Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review 23 years old CX detoxifying air therapy mask

Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review Donga Tempo Eco Natural TamponsNext up: erm.... tampons? While these are apparently unique in that they're purely 100% organic cotton and made by the first Korean brand to make tampons, these Donga Tempo Eco Natural tampons are still just tampons.  Practical, I suppose, for some of us, but also quite possibly the least exciting item I've ever received in a subscription box (and that includes pens (in a beauty box), and a bag of nuts (I hate nuts)).  But whatever, it doesn't bother me, I just have very little to say about this.  Apologies if y'all wanted a better picture... but I figured this would be sufficient for most of you.

Next: CNP Laboratory Derma-Scalp Shampoo.  This shampoo contains tea tree oil extract and is supposed to deep cleanse and unclog the pores on your scalp.  I didn't realized clogged pores on my scalp were an issue, but I do have an oily scalp, and cooling and refreshing sounds good.  Initial thoughts: I'm sad this is small (25 g) - a decent size for a sample, but it's one I would definitely use (whereas I have tons of full-sized products that just sit around taking up space).  Also, this does have a tea tree oil scent - a bit medicinal, so probably not something I would use before a date, assuming the smell lingers in my hair (and I also have a feeling it won't go well with the smell of my conditioner).

Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review CNP Laboratory Derma-Scalp Shampoo Tone Up Protection Sun

Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review CNP Laboratory Tone Up Protection Sun
I've definitely seen a bit of repeats from the same brands, and the next product is also from CNP Laboratory, and it's the Tone-Up Protection Sun (spf 42).  This is also kind of small (15 ml) but I have more than enough sun protection products, so that's quite alright.  According to Memebox, this SPF 42/PA+++ (sidenote: apparently PA+++ seems to mean the highest protection against UVA rays, so hooray for that!) contains powdery components to keep skin silky soft while deep sea water prevents your skin from drying out in the summer time.  It can also be used as a makeup base. As you can see, this has a tint to it and it's pretty light,
Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review CNP Laboratory Tone Up Protection Sunbut once blended it's pretty translucent.  It may leave a slight whitish cast in photos though (my hand in the blended picture looks slightly lighter than in real life).  I have high hopes for this, though, because it was not greasy in the slightest - in fact, I can't even tell it's on my hand anymore.  This is great for oily-skinned people like me.  As I'm writing this, I'm starting to wish they included a bigger size!

Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review Yufit Eon Wheat Germ Cream 75Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review Yufit Eon Wheat Germ Cream 75The next product is the Yufit Eon Wheat-Germ Cream 75 (full size - Memebox says $48).  Memebox says: more than 75% of this cream is made of organic wheat bud extracts, which work to hydrate, firm, brighten and fight signs of aging.  It's gentle and lightly absorbing texture won't irritate even sensitive skin, and it will help tighten pores.  This is for both day and night.  All of these things sound good to me, but how does it perform?  I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but this has an interesting consistency. It's thick but not heavy, and it's almost matte-like.  Not a great description, but it's less "shiny" than other moisturizers, and it doesn't leave my face shiny, which I'm happy about.  I don't have dry skin, but it feels decently moisturizing, though maybe not heavy duty enough for those with really dry skin.  According to Dr. Oz (the most reliable source out there, of course), wheat germ has lots of antioxidants in the form of Vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids and B vitamins, which sound great, but that's in the context of ingesting it.  Most of what I can find on wheat germ in skincare is about wheat germ oil rather than wheat germ extract, so I will refrain from making any claims about this.  Fan-B has a useful post about the ingredients here. In any case, I  really can't tell any benefits from using this for a few days but I will definitely keep using this and report back if I have anything else to say about it!

Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review Soy Bio Plus Fermented Lumpoule Soy Bean AmpouleAnyways, onwards and upwards! Next we have the Soy BIO + Fermented Lumpoule.  Yes, "lumpoule".  Whoever is naming these products in Korea should really get some input from English speakers because lumpoule just sounds awful - pretty sure I wouldn't think twice if I heard someone talking about the benign lumpoule their doctor found.  That being said, I will forgive the rather unfortunate choice of name (so named because it's a facial ampoule made from fermented soy bean lump) because 1) I love these tiny matte-glass bottles and 2) it's supposed to help prevent fine lines and wrinkles as well as brighten complexion.  You're suppose to use 2-3 drops after applying toner.  Normally I find it hard to get 2-3 drops of anything to apply to my entire face, but interestingly, this "lumpoule" seems to take a little time to absorb, so I can rub 3 drops around my hand and it spreads so easily without yet actually absorbing into my hand, which makes it quite easy to pat it in over my entire face.  These are pretty small bottles (about as tall as half a finger) but given how you really need very little, I think they will last a decent amount of time.  Like the wheat-germ moisturizer, I can't tell yet how well this works but will continue to try them.  I do notice that it leaves my hands slightly tacky after application, but it's fine on my face since I end up layering other things on top.

Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review Nuganic Customize Sun Base Color Control CC Cream
The last product is the Nuganic Customized Sun Base Color Control Cream (also full-sized, and worth $54 according to Memebox).  Boxes contained either this or the Nuganic Customized Pure Snail Color Control Cream, which I would have liked to try, but oh well.  That being said, based on the info card, I'm not sure what the difference is.  Both appear to list wrinkle improvement, whitening function and the same sun-protection level.  I'm also not sure if the product description applies to both of them, but it's apparently enriched with snail mucus extract (in both?), aloe vera, lemon and various plant extracts.  Memebox calls this an "easy to use" CC cream that will balance oil and moisture for a silky smooth finish, cover up imperfections and leave skin glowing with a natural shine ("dewy" makeup, anyone?).  Personally, I'm not sure I would call this easy to use.  It starts off white, and eventually blends into a beige-ish color, but it took a lot of blending for me (second picture is after a decent amount of blending, third is pretty much fully blended) and having to rub my face that much seems like it would be bad for my skin.  The amount of blending required is also problematic with the number of face products I use that are at risk of pilling of I rub too hard.  On top of which, it's still a little light for me, although that can be fixed with a tad of bronzer.  It's too bad, since this is full-sized, but I'll still give it a try.
Memebox Global 13 Unboxing Review Nuganic Customize Sun Base Color Control CC Cream Swatch

Final verdict: I don't regret spending ~$26 on this.  While I may not love or fully use everything, I don't think it was a waste of money and it's always a pleasure to be able to try new things, which ultimately makes these boxes worthwhile for me.

If you guys have thoughts about this box or any of the products, please do share!

Memebox Global Edition 12 Unboxing Review
First up we have:

1.  Ryo Anti-Hair Loss Treatment ($3 value)

Description: Infused with biota seed, coix seed, green tea and gold extracts, this hair treatment will not only prevent hair loss but also re-energize and strengthen thin, damaged hair. Its excellent cooling formula will gently soothe and nourish your scalp at the same time.

Ryo Anti-Hair Loss Treatment Memebox 12 Global Unboxing ReviewThoughts: I don't really have any use for an anti-hair loss treatment, unfortunately (fortunate really) so I will probably give this away.  I've heard it smells strongly of ginseng, so even if it works well as an overall hair treatment, I probably wouldn't love it anyway.  The ingredients looked interesting though, so I looked up a few of them.  Biota seed is apparently often used for hair loss and baldness, but it has also been recommended to prevent the graying of hair (source), which sounds good to me!  I recently realized my gray hair count went up from 1 to 3 so while I'm not really worried about it now, two more years of this new job of mine and I might need this... Coix seed is also known as Job's Tears, allegedly to represent the tears Job shed through all his suffering.  I'm curious about 1) who saw these seeds and said "you know what? These don't just look like tears - they look like Job's tears and 2) who said "hmm these seeds of suffering sound like the perfect remedy to my sad, balding head".  According to this site, coix seed is valued for its "cooling" property, so I guess that's where the cooling comes into this product, though I'm not sure how that helps with hair loss.  It's also supposed to have a number of other benefits, though none I saw that had anything to do with hair.  Green tea, on the other hand, seems to be touted all over the place as a hair growth stimulant, though it looks like it may be related to increasing testosterone, which I'm guessing many Memebox fans have on interest in.  That being said, I doubt the topical use of a hair mask would be potent enough to affect anyone's hormones.  Last but not least (or perhaps it is the least (effective)), I haven't seen anything on gold extract (and honestly I'm not really sure what it is) so I kind of feel like it's either poorly translated or just there for show.

2.  banila co. Claypatra Mineral Salt Clay Pack ($2.52 value)

Description: The 100% pure mud extracted straight from the Dead Sea (consisting of 32% salt and minerals) effectively removes any excess sebum, dead skin and external pollutants clogged up in your pores.  The mineral-rich formula also delivers deep hydration and nourishment to the skin.
banila co. Claypatra Mineral Salt Clay Pack Memebox Global 12 Unboxing Review

banila co. Claypatra Mineral Salt Clay Pack Memebox 12 Global Unboxing ReviewThoughts: I'm a skincare junkie, so this was my favorite product in the box.  I found it a little bit disappointing, though, that not only was it a pretty small container from the get go, but when you turn it upside down, you see that the interior of the jar is even smaller.  Given how little product there is to start with, that extra unused space could be one more application of this mask!  Which is unfortunate, particularly since I liked it the first time I used it.  It was very creamy and didn't tingle like some other mud masks, nor did it feel like it was pulling on my skin once it dried.  I left it on for about ten minutes and when I washed it off, my skin felt pretty smooth.  What I was more impressed with was that my pores actually seemed to look tighter and cleaner (unlike when I use the Originals charcoal mask, which seems to draw everything in my pores to the surface but then leaves it there, making my nose look like a sebum version of Whack-a-mole).  I'll have to see if I still feel that way after using it a few times, but as of right now I'm pretty excited to keep using it, and may end up buying the full size if it keeps up.

3.  Plagentra White Mark Cream (plus foils of the cream, lotion and massage gel) ($5.7 value + some foil packets)

Plagentra White Mark Cream Lotion Massage Gel Memebox 12 Global Unboxing Review
Description for the cream: Ever been stressed over stretch marks on your belly or on your thighs?  Plagentra's White Mark Cream will be your life-saver, with its scientifically approved formula to treat overly stretched skin and balance out any uneven skin tone on your body.

The foil packets were technically listed as a separate item, except that we were instructed to use the cream (bottle) on any areas with stretch marks, whereas the instructions for the packets say to apply the lotion and cream over your face, and then massage the gel on your thighs and legs.

Thoughts: First of all, I would not put stretch mark cream on my face.  This may be just a psychological thing - if they had just marketed it as a cream that targets uneven skin tone that can also be used on your body, I would try it on my face in a heartbeat.  But since it seems to be for stretchmarks and primarily for your body, I'm hesitant to use it on my face.  Also, this seems to be a three-step process - the cream is labeled step I, the lotion Step II, and the massage gel Step III - but the instructions and my instinct are all out of synch. First of all, I would typically expect to start from the lightest (the gel) and end with the heaviest (the cream).  Second, the instructions from Memebox don't indicate that you use these together, aside from applying both the lotion and cream to your face.  Lastly, it's unclear if these are supposed to do different things, but looking online at the manufacturer's website, it appears that the massage gel prevents and reduces stretch marks and helps slim thighs and calves with the "lymph drainage through cool massage and shrinkage of skin". Yea, ok. I'll report back to y'all about my newly slim legs next week. Meanwhile, the lotion appears to also prevent stretch marks and also help skin texture and tone (it does contain niacinamide as well as address wrinkles, pigments and "goose bumps".  This one is also said to reduce cellulite through removal of body water and waste in the cellulite layer.  I have a feeling that will be about as effective as the gel. And finally, the cream seems to be intended for older stretch marks.  I'm actually relieved that this one doesn't also promise some sort of slimming effect, though I still don't expect to see any different from using 15g of this stuff.

4.  L.vida Nail Polish (in Hyacinth Bouquet) ($7)

L.vida Nail Polish Hyacinth Bouquet Memebox 12 Global Unboxing Review
L.vida Nail Polish Swatch Hyacinth Bouquet Memebox 12 Global Unboxing Review
Do you need a description? This is nail polish. It is blue.  It comes in a pretty bottle.  I'll probably give this away as it's not a color I'll really use, but it seems like a good enough polish. The picture is one coat, and no top coat.

5.  Inter-cos Smooth Sensitive Removal Cream (250 ml (full size) - $43 according to Memebox)

Inter-cos Smooth Sensitive Removal Cream Spray Memebox 12 Global Unboxing ReviewDescription: This unique spray-type removal cream allows you to remove any unwanted hair from even the most sensitive areas of the body.

Thoughts: $43 for hair removal cream seems a bit high to me, and I can't say the packaging makes it look particularly luxurious.  It is a pretty large bottle though, so I will get a lot of uses out of this.  Memebox is notorious for marking up the prices on these info cards, so I wouldn't be surprised if the retail value is actually less than this.  In any case, this is indeed a spray-on hair removal cream, presumably so designed to minimize the mess and getting it all over your hands.  That being said, I'm not a huge fan of the spray design.  I don't think a spray is a very good delivery system for cream - this comes out kind of thick, so I ended up with a very uneven layer on my skin - I kind of had splotches with big clumps of lotion and other areas that barely got any.  To get a thick layer all over, I think I'd have to spray a ton, which would ultimately waste product. Also, it's kind of drippy, so I would spray in one area but if I sprayed a lot, it would start dripping down instead of staying in place.  I think I might just spray into my hand next time and then apply that way for more control.  Anyway, Memebox says to leave it on for 15-20 minutes then wipe away, and that you may have to use it more than once for "perfect removal".  The bottle says to leave on for 5 minutes and then test to see if the hair comes off when you scrape it with one of the popsicle sticks, then leave on for another 1-2/5 minutes (it's not really clear) if you need more time.  Silly me, I thought I should follow the manufacturer's instructions because they must know what they're talking about.  Sadly, my hair did not really come off after 5 minutes and upon discovering this I had to reapply where I had scraped off, so I let it sit for another 5, then jumped in the shower because I was tired of it dripping everywhere.  At that point I still kind of had to scrub a bit to get the hair off, and it definitely left quite a bit.  That being said, it definitely did work, but I think next time I'll just leave it on for the full 20 (it didn't irritate my skin at all) and I think it should be pretty effective.

6.  Palan Crysence Organic Essence (120 ml (full size), $60)

Description: Highly praised by beauty experts and hair designers, Palan's famous hair essence is a non-greasy lotion type treatment for dry, damaged hair that you don't have to wash off.  Made from natural herbal ingredients, it's extremely gentle and deeply moisturizing.
Palan Crysence Organic Essence Memebox 12 Global Unboxing Review

Thoughts: Really Memebox?  Labeling this as being worth $72 when it says on the box itself that the price is $60?  Whatever, doesn't bother me, but it's just careless on their part.  It is a nice sleek (and quite large) bottle (and very substantial) and I very much appreciate that it comes with a little plastic stopper that keeps the pump from being pumped inadvertently (great for travel!).  Anyway, I was not particularly excited about this since my hair is already fairly healthy and I don't really use leave in hair products (or if I do, I use Beauty Protector, which I already love) because they tend to just weigh my hair down or make it greasy, and rarely have a positive effect.  So I was going to give this away, but for some reason I just couldn't resist trying it out (for the sake of the blog, of course).  It's a white lotion-type essence, similar to a lot of other leave-in conditioners out there.  I wouldn't say I love the smell, which is hard to describe but kind of like your average hair product with a slight herbal hint) but it's not bad either, and it's very faint and does not linger in my hair.  As for the product itself, I put in a quarter sized amount in my almost dry, medium length hair, and it actually did make my hair softer.  It didn't seem to do much else (but I don't style my hair either - just air dry) but I like soft hair, so I guess maybe I'll actually use up the rest of this.

Final verdict: this was not the most exciting box for me, given that almost all of the value of the box lies in the hair removal spray and hair essence, both of which I will use but neither of which will have me jumping for joy.  Throw in the anti-hair loss treatment, and you've got a pretty heavy hair-care oriented box.  Given that Memebox sells specific Hair and Body boxes that you can buy if those are your interests, it's a bit disappointing to see so much hair-related stuff in this box (though to be fair, the spray is really a body product, but if you then add in the stretch mark cream, this is that much closer to a Hair + Body box).  I also wish there were more skincare (or at least a bigger sample of the Claypatra mask!).  One of the biggest draws of Korean beauty products for me is how much they care about their skin, so what I really want is access to some awesome new skincare products.  But oh well, you can't win every time, and it's certainly not a bad box by any means, just not one I'll be remembering for years (or months, or weeks, really, until I get my hands on the next box...) to come.

Let me know if you guys had any thoughts or questions about any of these products as I'd love to hear other opinions!

As I mentioned in my last Memebox post, there are a couple codes I have to share which are still going on:

July 2014 Birchbox Unboxing

and now for something completely different!

today i received my july birchbox, something i have not yet reviewed.  birchbox was my intro to beauty subscription boxes, and is so far the only one i have stuck with the entire time.  while i get tired and bored of others, something about birchbox just keeps me coming back for more.  perhaps it's the fact that it's only $10 a month, compared to other subscriptions that can be a bit pricier.  or perhaps it's the fact that i generally find myself getting to try a decently wide variety of products with birchbox, and despite the fact that everyone loves getting full sizes, it's actually kind of a relief that you can only fit so much in a birchbox that it can't add too much to my ever-growing hoard of unused products.  or perhaps, and most likely, i LOVE the point system.  basically, you get 4-5 products (sometimes more) every month, and you get 10 points, equivalent to $1 credit in the birchbox shop.  so as long as i do these super quick and easy reviews (really just ratings), i get to enjoy a fun surprise every month, try new beauty products constantly, and ultimately it only costs me about $5 a month.  pretty freakin' awesome if i do say so myself.  on top of which, the point system incentivizes me to actually use the products every month so i can get my points, whereas i have to admit that with other boxes, i sometimes excitedly collect my new products, then shelve them away for the "right time" to use them, only to forget about them while they clutter up my room.

anyways, onto the july box! this month since i got my box before the 10th, i managed to go spoiler free, which hasn't happened in a long time.  it reminded me how fun it is to be totally surprised.  note to self: stop checking spoilers already... in fact, this month birchbox let us choose one sample (or rather, we could choose between two samples, and then choose the color of whichever we picked).  i, however, being careless with my emails, apparently deleted that email without even looking at it, so i didn't even know which one of those i'd be getting.  in any case, here's the box:

July 2014 Birchbox Unboxing Review

from left to right (clockwise) we have:

1.  Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain in Valentine (full size is $20)

this is one samples we could have chosen - it was between the lip stain (two colors) and the Ruffian nail polish (three colors).  at first i wanted the nail polish since i don't use lip stains often, but i'm intrigued by the texture of this. it's creamier than other, gel or liquid based lip stains of tried (benefit and theBalm, in particular).  perhaps because of the texture, it doesn't dry as fast as the benetints which makes it easier to blend, and it also seems less drying.
Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain Valentine Birchbox 2014 July Unboxing Review
apologies for the lighting - i work late hours and rarely have natural light for my photos, so the lip stain is pinker than it appears in these pictures.  this is birchbox's representation of the color, although honestly i think it's more true pink and less orange than that picture looks too.  in any case, it's a fun summer color that's not too bright but can undoubtedly be layered on for even more color, and in an initial swatch on my lips, it does seem less drying than other lip stains, although as someone who is dependent on lip balm, i would definitely layer some balm over this for additional comfort.
Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain Swatch Valentine Birchbox 2014 July Unboxing Review
Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain Swatch Valentine Birchbox 2014 July Unboxing Review
as you can see it blends pretty far without leaving stain lines, which i'm pleased with! also the more you blend the more sheer it is, so you can see i blended this a decent amount beyond the initial application and it's still definitely noticeable, but you could easily build up more color with no trouble.

2.  Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel ($48 for full size)

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel Sample Birchbox 2014 July Unboxing Review
i've gotten a whole lot of peels like this in various subscription boxes over the years - thin gels that instantly start pilling on your skin, claiming that the pilling is your dead skin cells coming off - and this one seems pretty much like the others.  i've always been wary of these, since i read that it's just a chemical reaction in the gel making it ball up on itself. i'm no scientist so i won't make any claims one way or the other.  these types of exfoliants/peels do generally leave my face a bit smoother/softer/less flaky, though how much of it is due to the chemical exfoliation and how much of it is due to the fact that i'm massaging little beads of something around my face for 2 minutes, i don't know. that being said, this did help get rid of some minor flakiness.  however, it also gave me a very mild sensation (i don't want to say burning since it didn't burn, but it was like 5 steps down from burning), so if you have sensitive skin, maybe test this on a small patch first.  final verdict - i will continue to use this up (though there isn't really that much in there, considering they tell you to use a quarter sized amount) but don't think i'll be shelling out $48 for it anytime soon.

3.  NAOBAY Body Radiance Lotion (full size is $24)

to be perfectly honest, i'm always pretty unimpressed and unexcited about getting body lotion in subscription boxes.  i rarely need body lotion on anything but my hands, and even then, i'm rarely impressed with lotion. best case, it gets the job done. worst case, it's too greasy, too watery, too powdery, or smells funky.  so i don't have much to say about this one.  the description says it has olive oil and avocado to naturally hydrate and soften the skin.  this one isn't thick and greasy, which i like, but it's also nothing special for me.  it doesn't seem more hydrating than other lotions i've tried, and i'm not a huge fan of the smell.  it's not bad per se (unless i stick my hand right under my nose, in which case i don't really like it at all. it's not really sweet or floral. i'm not sure it smells like avocado or olive oil either, but it does lean more to the savory side of scents, if that makes any sense...).  it doesn't seem to extend far though - i can only smell it when i press my hand right up against my nose.  ultimately, not a win for me, but that's ok.  lotions never are.

4.  Ofra Universal Eyebrow Pencil (full size! $13)

even if i got no points for this box, this pencil would make up for the entire price of the box, so everything else is basically a freebie (or sweet gwp).  that being said, i have to admit i wasn't giddy with excitement over seeing an eyebrow pencil, since i rarely do anything to my eyebrows besides pluck them, but i actually really like this. the shade is supposedly "universally flattering" (see pic below - it almost looks a little greenish on my screen, but rest assured it's brown).  i can't say if that's true or not, but it definitely worked well with my eyebrows (which are very dark brown).  it went on smoothly and is apparently waterproof, which i guess is good next time i want to go swimming with well defined brows... it says to gently smudge with a small brush, which i feel like kind of defeats the purpose of having a convenient pencil (at least for someone who doesn't really have a real brush set or carry around brushes).  thankfully i discovered it works just as well to just smudge it a bit with my finger (and somehow my finger even came away pretty clean!) minimal effort, and my brows actually looked much improved, to my surprise.  given how easy it was and the difference it made, i will probably continue using this regularly (hooray for it being full sized!)

Ofra Universal Eyebrow Pencil Swatch Birchbox 2014 July Unboxing Review

UPDATE: as requested, i've uploaded a photo of my brows with and without the Ofra pencil. the picture on the top is my untouched brows, and the picture on the bottom is with a few swipes of the pencil blended (not very well.. i may have been late to work) by finger.  still looks completely natural, but more defined and less haphazard.  i'm also about as far from being an expert as you could get so it would probably look better in the hands of someone more experienced :)

Ofra Universal Eyebrow Pencil Before After Swatch Birchbox 2014 July Unboxing Review

5.  100% Pure honey cream wash gingerade Shower Gel (full size is $15)

last but not least, we have our "beauty extra" (i.e. what is supposed to be an extra that doesn't count as one of your 4-5 samples).  sometimes these are a bit different than the other samples (e.g. we've gotten pens, drugstore finds, notecards, etc.). this one is pretty in line with normal birchbox samples (i've gotten tons of body washes, and another month i got two identically sized packets of lotion).  body wash is another thing i really do not get excited about.  if it cleans me and doesn't dry or break me out (which is true for basically every body wash i've ever tried) and doesn't smell bad, it's fine with me.  i don't get a kick out of using fancier or nicer body washes.  that being said, "honey cream gingerade" sounds like it could be delicious! i'm not even taking a shower until tomorrow morning but i couldn't resist tearing this open just a tad to see how it smells.  verdict - it smells pretty good.  nothing mindblowing that would make me buy it, but pretty good.  it also looks slightly liquidy for shower gel, but i'll get a better sense of that when i actually use it.

UPDATE: ok, this shower gel is in fact super liquidy.  the information card describes it as a "richly foaming cleanser" and tells you to use sparingly.  that is about as far off from my experience as you could get.  first, i put it onto a spongy-type loofah thing i use, and it basically disappeared.  it soaked right in and i basically felt like i was scratching myself.  there was no lather whatsoever.  so then i used the second packet (i.e. not sparingly) with my hands, and that gave me no lather either, so i basically spread it around until it washed away.  on top of that, the smell? eh.  nothing special.

anyway, that's my july birchbox for you!  if you have any desire to try out birchbox, you can sign up here (warning: referral link). you won't regret it!

Memebox Scentbox #3 Grapefruit Unboxing and Review + coupons

hello again!

today i continue my streak (if you can call it that) of memebox reviews/unboxings.  this time i'd like to show you a new type of box - the scentbox.  a scentbox is, shockingly, a box that's themed around a particular scent.  the first three (perhaps of many) scentboxes memebox offered were rose, baby powder and grapefruit.  i'm not a huge fan of the first two, but i love the smell of grapefruit and at $15 (plus $6.99 shipping) for 3-4 full-deluxe sized products, i couldn't resist (then again, i can't seem to resist memeboxes no matter what the theme or cost, so it's a bit of a moot point).  i won't go into details about memebox again except to say that i'm seriously loving it, and skip to the bottom of this post for some codes/discounts (warning: they are affiliate codes).

anyways, onto the box itself! [apologies in advance for the crappy photos - i wanted to get this out, but getting home at midnight means no natural light...]

at only $15 (compared to normal memeboxes, which are around $23 and go up if they're superboxes or otherwise themed), this scentbox was less chock full than other boxes, which is fair.  the box included the following:

1.  Evas Mimi Lauryne's Dress Perfume Mist de Grapefruit (full size) ($18)

Description: Mimi Lauryne's Dress Perfume Mist is an all-around scented mist for refreshing and riddling of any stenches from your clothes, beddings, curtains, sofas, and even inside your car.  A quick spritz of this citrus juiciness infused with grapefruit, lilac, orange flower, violet, and musk fragrances will lift up your mood and spirit!
Evas Mimi Lauryne's Dress Perfume Mist de Grapefruit Memebox Scentbox 3 Grapefruit Unboxing Review
Initial thoughts: soo this is a fancy febreze?  that's the impression i get.  i sprayed this on my pillow and it smells nice enough - not overwhelmingly of grapefruit and more sweet than tart, but nice.  a lot of people seemed really excited about this mist.  i personally thing it's a nice alternative to febreze or other air fresheners but is otherwise pretty unremarkable.  also, the smell didn't seem to last all that long on my pillow.

2.  Kael28 Sun Killing Grapefruit Gel (full size) ($30)

Description: With more than 16,200 mg of real grapefruit extracts packed inside, this all-in-one ultra-hydrating soothing gel combines all the functions of a toner, an emulsion, an essence, a cream, a soothing [sic] and a sleeping pack. Deliver deep hydration and treat signs of aging with this multi-player!

Kael28 Sun Killing Grapefruit Gel Memebox Scentbox 3 Grapefruit Unboxing Review

Initial thoughts: first of all, what is "sun killing gel"? does it kill the sun? does it kill my skin? is it for skin killed by the sun?  i'm just not sure. second, i'm assuming they're using the comma in the non-american way (i.e., 16.200 grams rather than 16,200).  sixteen thousand grams of extract would be a whoole lot of grapefruit extract.  third, it's a pretty lofty claim to call this a toner/emulsion/essence/cream/soothing (a soothing what? what is a soothing...) and sleeping pack.  to me it honestly seems like a glorified (but admittedly nicer) aloe gel for sun burnt skin.  this website has a bit more information, including that the grapefruit has a "trouble-soothing effect" [sic] on acne, but that it also makes skin shiny.  i'm guessing they mean in the "dewy" sense of the word that seems to be all the range in asia right now, but i am unfortunately good on the dewiness and have no lack of shine in my life.  so i will probably not be using this on my face, although maybe if i'm feeling reckless i'll try it overnight.   i did try it on my body, and it is in fact similar in consistency to aloe.  it absorbs fairly quickly but didn't leave my skin feeling particularly moisturized, and also left a very mild sensation on my leg - not burning, but a very very mild version of it.  which reminds me, i'm not sure i'd want to put something citrusy and acidic on my sunburnt skin... but i guess i'll try it if need be.  in any event, while this may come in handy this summer (or what's left of it), i don't see myself getting a whole lot of use out of it as i won't have many opportunities to get out into the sun, so i'm not particularly thrilled about it.

also, the smell is very very faint, but i suppose i detect a hint of grapefruit.  being a scentbox, though, i'd expect more grapefruity smells...

3.  Sun Smile Hydro Gel Choosy Fruit Lip Mask ($2 each)

Description: Enriched with collagen, vitamen E, and jojoba oil, Hydro Gel Choosy Smile is an easy-to-apply, gel-type lip pack for delivering moisture and vitamin nutrition deep into your dry, chapped lips.

Use: place over lips for 15-30 minutes, then pat in the remaining essence for full absorbance [sic - just trying to stay true to memebox...]
Sun Smile Hydro Gel Choosy Fruit Lip Mask Memebox Scentbox 3 Grapefruit Unboxing Review

Initial thoughts: i so wanted to try one of these as soon as i opened my box so that i could include a review of it, but considering i only have two, i decided it was a waste to use it right before going to bed.  so i'm going to use it at a time where it might be better appreciated (*date night* ahem) and will report back.  they do look mighty strange though, based on the picture in the corner, so this is definitely a pre date night thing.

also, YOU CAN USE THEM FOR YOUR NIPPLES?? that's... super random.  i think i'll refrain from testing out that use of these lip masks, but hey if anyone was desperately in need of an all-in-one lip/nipple mask, boy are you in for a treat!
Sun Smile Hydro Gel Choosy Fruit Lip Mask Memebox Scentbox 3 Grapefruit Unboxing Review

final comment: these are labeled as "fruit", and there is no mention of grapefruit.  not that i mind that much, but why were these included?

4.  Happy Fam Deo Fresh Grapefruit ($20 for 20 sheets)

Description: Happy Fam Deo Fresh tissue with its powder formula allows you to quickly and easily refresh your sweaty, smelly under-arms throughout the daytime.

Initial thoughts: wow, memebox really thought we needed help with our bodily issues, huh?  first they give us a mist for our "stenches" and now we get deodorant wipes for our smelly under-arms.  useful for the summer, i suppose.  that being said, while these will certainly get used, i'm also not especially over the moon about these - rarely do i get up in the morning saying "gosh, i can't wait to use my deodorant wipes today!"  but oh well, what can a girl do.  also, i opened up the pack and this doesn't smell strongly of grapefruit either... what gives, memebox?  where are my grapefruit scents??
Happy Fam Deo Fresh Grapefruit deodorant wipes Memebox Scentbox 3 Grapefruit Unboxing Review

Final verdict: for ~ 22, i can't say i didn't get my money's worth.  if i wanted all these things, i'd easily pay more than $22 for them.  sadly, however, none of these products really get me going, though they will generally get used.  one thing i do wish though is that, as stated above, there would be MOAR GRAPEFRUIT SMELLS!  i got grapefruit as a theme, but as a scentbox, i felt like it kinda dropped the ball, aside from the mist (which is nice smelling, don't get me wrong, but not strongly grapefruit in my opinion).  but who knows, maybe the lip masks will smell like grapefruit, or maybe these deodorant wipes, when mixed with the stench of my body, will combine into something magical and grapefruity.

________

anyways, onto the coupons!  as part of the memebox affiliate program, i'm pleased to bring you various promotions (to be updated regularly).  right now, if you order through here, through July 30 you can get $5 any order of over $100, and you can get $3 off the Bubble Pop Cosmetics Superbox.  this box looks super fun and the first spoiler is the Brilliant Sparkling Powder Set:
